Auckland Live is excited to welcome Auckland Gospel Choir to the Morning Melodies line-up for the very first time! From the Kiwi-Samoan award-winning film Tinā to stages across the country, the Auckland Gospel Choir has been inspiring audiences for over 13 years with more than 400 performances nationwide. In 2024, they won the Gospel Open Competition at the World Choir Games in Auckland, taking home a Golden Diploma. This August, the choir will travel to Sweden to represent New Zealand and the Pacific once again - this time in the Champions Competition. Their performance celebrates Auckland’s incredible diversity as the world’s largest Pacific city, blending Te Reo Māori, Pacific and African American gospel traditions, as well as popular New Zealand and classic pop tunes. A truly multicultural, multigenerational, and multidenominational ensemble, the Auckland Gospel Choir is led by Musical Directors Seumanu Seuoti Simon Matāfai JP, Laveia‘ava Raymah Matāfai, and Shannon Kiro. WHERE: Bruce Mason Centre WHEN: Saturday 28 March at 10am and 11.30am The main event will be a special orchestral retelling of Donovan Bixley’s children’s book The Fantabulous Animal Orchestra, narrated live by the author himself. Watch the story leap off the page as the orchestra paints each character and moment with sound, accompanied by screened illustrations from the book. Young listeners will delight in classics like The Swan from Carnival of the Animals, toe-tapping fun with 'Old MacDonald had a Farm', the breezy charm of 'Incy Wincy Spider', and more orchestral surprises along the way. The concert finishes with our signature Orchestra Walkthrough, where the audience can wander through the orchestra to see and hear the musicians playing up close! Make a day of it and arrive early for free pre-concert activities! The kids can also take part in the Easter Activity Trail – register and pick up your map from the Info Tent in Waiwharariki Anzac Town Square (in front of HelloWorld and Katsubi), follow the map around Takapuna and complete the activities at each location to receive a stamp, then make your way back to the tent for your Easter Treat! Harcourts Cooper and Co Shore to Shore is a great day out along our sunny shores with thousands of participants running or walking the 5.9 km route! The event starts at Takapuna Grammar School, heads along both the picturesque Takapuna and Milford beaches and ends at Milford Reserve. This event brings together the North Shore community and supports local schools by providing them with an opportunity to raise funds for much-needed sports gear. A great opportunity for Friends, Parents, Aunties, Uncles and Grandparents get together, dress up, and join us for the fun! A fantastic event with plenty of awesome costumes and spot prizes!
